The biodiesel industry is more or less still in its infancy. However, there are already a lot of promising trends in this field. Find below those developments and how they can affect the biodiesel industry as a whole.
First off, several huge companies are now gearing towards investing in biodiesel. The imminent result of this would be the development of infrastructures and the increase of production. The number of refuelling sites and biodiesel dealerships will also increase. Consequently, more and more people will have easier access to biodiesel.
In Europe, about 2 percent of the population are already using this alternative fuel to power their cars. By 2010, this percentage is predicted to increase up to 6 percent. In the US, public consumption of biodiesel is still low compared to European statistics. However, there are now more than 950 biodiesel refuelling sites in America and counting. As these two powerful nations begin to fully take advantage of biodiesel, the rest of the world would surely follow.
In fact, overseas expansion is already an observable trend in the biodiesel industry. Brazil seems to be leading the pack since the country possesses a huge agricultural capacity. As such, Brazil is fast becoming one of the leading suppliers of fully renewable raw materials for biodiesel.
Aside from this, another great trend in the biodiesel industry is the emergence of other feedstock or raw materials. Vegetable oils, animal oils, and algae are one of the most common biodiesel feedstock of today. However, soy oil and coffee grounds are also showing lots of potential.
